Cooking Instructions

  • Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground chicken and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Continue until the chicken is fully browned and cooked through.
  • Add chopped onion, chopped garlic, and diced bell pepper to the skillet with the chicken. Sauté for 3 to 4 minutes, until the vegetables are soft and fragrant.
  • Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, Liquid Smoke, Cajun seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together until well combined.
  • Lower the heat and let the mixture simmer for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens to your liking. If it gets too thick, add a splash of chicken broth to thin it out.
  • Lightly toast your hamburger buns in the oven or on a skillet. Spoon a generous amount of the Cajun chicken mixture onto the bottom half of each bun.
  • Top with the other half of the bun. Garnish with chopped green onions if desired. Serve hot and enjoy the bold flavors!

Notes

For extra flavor and a touch of heat, let the chicken mixture rest for a few minutes after simmering so the spices fully develop. You can also add a splash of hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper if you like it spicier. Toasting the buns adds a slight crunch that helps hold up the saucy filling and keeps them from getting soggy.
