Beef Filling
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon ground cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
- 4 pita breads, halved
- 1 cup tzatziki sauce
- Chopped lettuce and tomatoes for serving optional
Cooking Steps
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and garlic and sauté for 2–3 minutes until soft.
Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
Stir in mushrooms, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook until mushrooms are tender and any moisture has evaporated.
Stir in shredded cheese and mix until melted and combined with the beef mixture.
Warm pita breads slightly and open pockets.
Fill each pita half with beef and mushroom mixture, then top with a spoonful of tzatziki sauce.
Add lettuce and tomato if using, and serve immediately.
